Nicole Atkins & The Sea: 'Neptune City'
Bitterzoet - 2 May 2008

Nicole Atkins (1978) and her band 'The Sea' played songs from 'Neptune City'. This is Nicole's debut CD, with very strong songs that she wrote herself. Her band, consisting of a guitarist, bass player, keyboard player and a violin player, managed to reproduce the CD's bombastic sound really well on stage, and the sound was indeed very good.

'Neptune City' refers to the area Neptune (New Jersey, USA), where Nicole Atkins grew up. She asked the audience if anyone had ever been to New Jersey, other than to the airport. Nicole and The Sea played all tracks from their CD, such as Together We're Both Alone, Kill The Headlights (not to be mistaken for 'kill the head lice'! as Nicole pointed out), and the catchy Brooklyn's On Fire!). She finished off with a Doors cover, When The Music's Over. Nicole will continue to tour (check out her website) and announced to be back in Amsterdam in July at De Melkweg venue.
